I Just Didn’t Try Hard Enough
2 Sam 11:12-13 (NIV) Then David said to him, “Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. At David’s invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master’s servants; he did not go home.

When we sin and then try to cover it up, we start moving in the direction of trying to justify our actions. We will try to get others to sin too. If they sin, we feel better about our sins. But Uriah, even while drunk, wouldn’t go be with his wife. So, David felt like he had done the best he could do. He had tried very hard to save Uriah’s life. But, Uriah just wouldn’t cooperate. What is a King to do?
