However, those who have consistently rejected Jesus’ message and now have an eye disease, they use these objections because they no longer want to know.

Heb 6:4-6 (NIV) It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace.

There is a lot of controversy about what this Scripture means by “once been enlightened.” Some say it means they were saved and backslid. Others say they were never saved in the first place.

One thing is for sure, they are heading for trouble in eternity. These people know what they are doing. They have seen, tasted, and shared the things of God.

The main thing this Scripture is saying is that God allowed them to try out (test drive) Christianity so they could make a knowledgeable decision.

Until a person has seen, tasted, and shared the things of God, they don’t know whether or not they want the things it offers. So, God gives them a chance to try it out and see what their decision will be. But, if a person decides to reject it, that decision is final. It is impossible to bring them back to repentance, because they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace.
