Welcome To
Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount

Study Twenty

The Holy Spirit is your power to resist sexual sins so you can bring the life and ministry of Jesus into your life and ministry.

You Will ALWAYS Have Spiritual Needs
God is equiping you with ministerial gifts from Jesus and power gifts from the Holy Spirit. Your whole focus can be locked in on all these gifts and provisions as it relates to you receiving them. But, there is one thing you need to always do. You need to see yourself as a Christian first and a minister second. As a Christian, there are people who need to minister to your spiritual needs. As a minister, there are people you are responsible for.

There must be services, meetings, ministers, and resources that you look to because you are a Christian. You have a Christian experience and spiritual growth that needs to be taken care of by other members of Jesus’ body. They can only minister to you to the degree that you allow them to. You have seen people who COULD have been helped in a tremendous way, if they would have only allowed you to help them. You have had those who have taken advantage of some of your ministry but have neglected a lot of it. And, you have had some who have taken advantage of all they could get through you. Which kind of a Christian are you?

These Ministers Are For YOUR Spiritual Growth
Eph 4:11-13 (NIV) It was He Who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, ATTAINING TO THE WHOLE MEASURE OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST.

You may feel like you are already mature. You have already been used by God in a mighty way to help a lot of other people in these areas. You have already been healed in areas of sexual temptation and may feel like you really don’t need any more of God’s help. You may have already dismissed these other ministers and don’t feel you need them anymore. That means you are no longer looking at yourself as a Christian; you are only looking at yourself as a minister. You are now your own minister, ministering to your own needs. That is where David got, when he fell to sexual temptation.

Don’t Stand Alone
Eph 4:14-16 (NIV) Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him Who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

You know you aren’t an infant; but, when you stand alone, you separate yourself from the powerful influence of the rest of the body of Christ. We can all make infantile decisions and be tossed back and forth in our spiritual condition, if we detach ourselves from the gifts and ministries of our spiritual friends.
Plus, it can be pride that has caused us to only look to our own spiritual care. That becomes the place where we are now being opposed by God (James 4:6). When we start trying to stand alone in our Christian life, we remove ourselves from those who would continue to speak the truth to us in love. We cut ourselves off from continuing to grow up into our Head, which is Christ. It opens up doors of temptation that we have already been healed from or even doors that were never open before.

God Is Trying To PREVENT You From Sinning
Jesus’ purpose in binding you together with all the other Christians and ministers is to supply you with every supporting ligament. This takes you away from being singularly responsible for your eternal destiny. It surrounds you will all the prayers, ministry, and fellowship of all those Jesus has provided for you.

David had been used by God in a mighty way, had been faithful to God during all kinds of temptations and trials, had been in a close and intimate relationship with God for a long time, but still needed someone to help him stay on track with God. Even after he had committed adultery, lied to Uriah, and orchestrated his murder, he was still not repenting and heading back into a relationship with God. God had to send Nathan to David and start ministering to him.

2 Sam 12:1 (NIV) The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.”

This story was used by God to help David get back into a good relationship with Him. Who knows where David would have ended up had God not sent Nathan to him. But, even though David did repent, all those horrible sins created a major problem in David’s future.

Prevention Is Much Better Than Being Cured
2 Sam 12:7-10 (NIV) Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more.

Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in His eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, THEREFORE, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised Me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’”

That isn’t the way you want your ministry to end up. You need to finish well with God. You need all the help you can get from Him. Let Jesus minister to you through those He chooses so He can PREVENT you from getting involved in anything that wouldn’t be good for you. Pray that He will keep you surrounded by every Christian and every minister you need so you can be the very best you can be in Jesus.
