Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount

Study Twenty-Seven

The Holy Spirit is God in you for bringing the life and ministry of Jesus into your life and ministry.

The Main Objective Of Jesus’ Ministry
Here are a lot of Scriptures. It may seem like too many for you to look at and study. However, this is all about Jesus and His relationship with the Father. It is important for us to see the submission of Jesus to the Father. It was one of Jesus’ main objectives to show us how submitted He was to our heavenly Father. This will help us see how submitted we need to be as Christians and ministers. If Jesus can submit to our heavenly Father, then surely we can start praying for the same submission in our life and ministry.

Spend some real time in prayer and study as you read over each of these passages. It will give you the heart of Jesus and the life and ministry we seek.

Jesus’ Submission To The Father
John 5:19-24 (NIV) Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does. Yes, to your amazement He will show Him even greater things than these. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He is pleased to give it. Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, Who sent Him. I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him Who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

John 12:49-50 (NIV) For I did not speak of My own accord, but the Father Who sent Me commanded Me what to say and how to say it. I know that His command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told Me to say.

John 10:18 (NIV) No one takes it [life] from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from My Father.

John 14:10 (NIV) Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you are not just My own. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, Who is doing His work.

John 14:24 (NIV) He who does not love Me will not obey My teaching. These words you hear are not My own; they belong to the Father Who sent Me.

Mat 11:27 (NIV) All things have been committed to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.

John 14:31a (NIV) But the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what My Father has commanded Me.

John 10:37 (NIV) Do not believe Me unless I do what My Father does.

Mark 14:35-36 (NIV) Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from Him. “Abba, Father,” He said, “everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.”

Jesus’ Source Of Power And Authority
John 5:21-23 (NIV) For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He is pleased to give it. Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, Who sent Him.

John 17:5 (NIV) And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.

John 6:57 (NIV) Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

John 10:17-18 (NIV) The reason My Father loves Me is that I lay down My life--only to take it up again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from My Father.”

John 10:25 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in My Father’s name speak for Me.

John 10:29-30 (NIV) My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all ; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

Mat 26:53 (NIV) Do you think I cannot call on My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

John 3:35 (NIV) The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands.

John 13:3 (NIV) Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.

Jesus Is Our Physical Image Of The Father
John 14:9 (NIV) Jesus answered: “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?
Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Another one of the main objectives of Jesus is to show us what our heavenly Father is like. His submission and His source of authority was in the Father so we could see our Father through Jesus’ life and ministry. Jesus is trying to build our faith, trust, reliance, and dependency on our heavenly Father because we have been able to get to know Him through Jesus.

Jesus Is Our Entrance Into The Father
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:20 (NIV) On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.

John 6:57 (NIV) Just as the living Father sent Me and I LIVE because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will LIVE because of Me.

Jesus Wants To Show Us How Great The Father Is
John 15:15 (NIV) I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.

John 16:15 (NIV) All that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is Mine and make it known to you.

John 14:28 (NIV) You heard Me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

John 16:23 (NIV) In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. I tell you the truth, My Father will give you whatever you ask IN MY NAME.

John 17:20-23 (NIV) My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one: I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.

Jesus Is Following The Father’s Example
Luke 22:29 (NIV) And I confer on you a kingdom, just as My Father conferred one on Me.

Mat 11:27 (NIV) All things have been committed to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.

Jesus Is Showing Us How Our Relationship With The Father Works
Mat 12:50 (NIV) For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.

Mat 18:19 (NIV) Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.

Mat 18:35 (NIV) This is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.

Mat 20:23 (NIV) Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from My cup, but to sit at My right or left is not for Me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by My Father.”

We Need Jesus’ Life And Ministry So We Can Be Like Our Heavenly Father
Mat 5:48 (NIV) Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Luke 6:36 (NIV) Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Mat 10:19-20 (NIV) But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Mat 7:21 (NIV) “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.

Mat 6:31-33 (NIV) So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Mat 6:9 (NIV) “This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”

John 4:23 (NIV) Yet a time is coming and has now come when the TRUE worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
