Gospel Training Prepares You For A Powerful Ministry

Eph 6:10-13 (NIV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Here is what you are praying and asking God to do in and through you, and cooperating with Him on, as you read, study, and learn from the Holy Spirit in the Gospels:

To be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.

To put on the full armor of God.

To take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

As you submit to the life, ministry, and methods of Jesus in the Gospels, you are learning how to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. And you are learning how to put on the full armor of God, which is Jesus. Rom 13:14 (NIV) Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. This clothing yourself in Jesus is what He is talking to you about in John 15:4-17.

Focus On What Jesus Is Focused On

Jesus doesn’t fight with people; He doesn’t try to impress them; He doesn’t try to get them to grow into larger crowds; He doesn’t try to make His ministry big; He doesn’t try to form special organizations; He just tries to set them free from Satan and help them build their relationship with His heavenly Father. His ministry has two major parts to it and both of them come from the spirit realm. He came to represent His heavenly Father and how wonderful He is and He came to defeat Satan.

These two objectives can be seen in His disciple’s ministry: James 4:7 (NIV) SUBMIT yourselves, then, to God. RESIST the devil, and he will flee from you.

These two objectives can be seen in the ministry Jesus gave Paul: Eph 6:10 (NIV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Eph 6:12 (NIV) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

And we can see these two objectives in Jesus’ own words: John 10:10 (NIV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Defeat The Work Of Satan In People’s Lives

Mat 28:18-20 (NIV) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus defeated Satan and now has all authority in heaven and on earth. What is He going to do with it? He is going to allow you to clothe yourself with Himself so you can go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. How are you going to do it all? And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

It’s About Leading People To God And Protecting Them From Satan

Mark 6:48-51 (NIV) He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night He went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw Him walking on the lake, they thought He was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw Him and were terrified. Immediately He spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed.

Jesus didn’t walk on the water to impress His disciples; He came out there to protect them from the storm. Satan was trying to kill them and they didn’t know how to fight against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Whether it was a storm, a disease, a group of soldiers, a hostile crowd, or a poisonous snake, Jesus’ objective was and is to keep us safe until we have completed the life and ministry He has planned for us.

God Is Good And Satan Is Evil

Luke 13:15 (NIV) The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

Two things were being done for the woman and for the people around Jesus. He was setting the woman free from Satan’s bondage and taking her into the love of her heavenly Father. Jesus was setting the people’s minds free from Satan’s bondage and He was taking them into the love of their heavenly Father. The religious leaders were teaching the people that God cared more for the laws than He cared for them. Jesus was proving that God created the laws to protect them. God didn’t love the laws; He loved the people. It is always about setting people free from Satan and pointing them to the wonderful aspects of God.

This Gives You Power Over Satanic Temptation

Luke 22:31 (NIV) Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. If we are in trouble spiritually, Jesus is always all about protecting us from Satan and helping us get back into a close and intimate relationship with God. Rom 8:34 (NIV) Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, Who died--more than that, Who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

If we are going to enter into the life and ministry of Jesus then we will have to give up all human motivations and procedures. We have to yield to the two major motivations and systems of Jesus. He is all about setting people free from the evil one and helping them live forever with their heavenly Father. That has to be what our life and ministry is all about too.
