Jesus’ Sermon On The Mount

Study Thirty-Two

JESUS’ SERMON: Mat 6:14-15 (NIV) For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

The Holy Spirit is your love and power to forgive so you can bring the life and ministry of Jesus into your life and ministry. And, He helps you fast so you can get your body control and bring it into living the life of Jesus and doing His ministry.

One Of His Own Apostles Betrayed Him
Mat 26:48-50 (NIV) Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest Him.” Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. Jesus replied, “Friend, do what you came for.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested Him.

They Lied Against Him
Mat 26:59-61 (NIV) The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put Him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”  Luke 23:2 (NIV) And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king.”

They Spit, Slapped, Hit, And
Made Fun Of Him
Mat 26:67-68 (NIV) Then they spit in His face and struck Him with their fists. Others slapped Him and said, “Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit You?”

Mark 14:65 (NIV) Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took Him and beat Him.

John 18:21-23 (NIV) Why question Me? Ask those who heard Me. Surely they know what I said.” When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby struck Him in the face. “Is this the way You answer the high priest?” he demanded. “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike Me?”
One Of His Closest Friends
Denied Knowing Him
Mat 26:73-74 (NIV) After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away.” Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, “I don’t know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.

They Beat Him
Mat 27:26 (NIV) Then he [Pilate] released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.

They Put A Crown Of Thorns On Him
And Beat Him On The Head
Mat 27:28-30 (NIV) They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand and knelt in front of Him and mocked Him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on Him, and took the staff and struck Him on the head again and again.

John 19:1-3 (NIV) Then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head. They clothed Him in a purple robe and went up to Him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they struck Him in the face.

They Crucified Him
Mat 27:35 (NIV) When they had crucified Him, they divided up His clothes by casting lots.  Luke 23:33 (NIV) When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified Him, along with the criminals--one on His right, the other on His left.

Yet, He Forgave Them
Luke 23:34 (NIV) Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up His clothes by casting lots.
