Meeting With Your Friend
Getting Them Started
Once you have discovered where your friend’s desires, problems, goals, and motivations are, it will be time to get them started. To do this, have your friend read the benefits of Bible Life Counseling in the Getting Acquainted presentation. While they are doing that, meet with them once a week. If they need your help getting started, your journey through The Special Features program in Growing: Year Two will have your ready to help them. Help Them Stay Interested
While your friend is going through their week with The Benefits of Bible Life Counseling, you will be going through your week with The Purpose of Growing: Year Two again. After the week comes to an end, set a time to go over their week’s studies with them. Take out time to answer any questions they may have. But, stay on the subject as much as possible. You don’t need to be rigid in trying to stay on track; but, they will only grow spiritually, when you are talking about the things of the Bible and Jesus. But, talking about the things of the Bible and Jesus, need to be those things that help them grow. There are subjects in the Bible that are interesting, but won’t help them grow spiritually. They need to get to know those interesting, but not spiritual-growth materials later. Their Questions Can Be Good
If your friend asks questions that are important to them, but off the subject, ask them if it would be okay to discuss that at a later time. If there is an issue you don’t know the answer to, tell them that you will check it out and get back with them on it. If they have a question that will be addressed later, assure them that it will be discussed at the appropriate time. If it is an issue that is blocking off their desires to study, then pray and ask Jesus to help you know how to solve it for them. Discovering The Method
The first and most important thing you need to look at is, what is your friend already using to get their needs and desires met? This means it is important for you to understand the difference between how Jesus provides happiness and your friend’s method for seeking happiness. Your friend has already decided what method they think they should use to get the happiness they seek. |
Typically your friend has confused pleasure or extreme pleasure, as being happiness; pleasure is not happiness. Ask Jesus to help you show them the pitfalls of worldly pleasure and extreme pleasure. Ask Him to help you have a clear understanding of the difference between pleasure and happiness. Ask Him to help you with worldly pleasure and godly pleasure and happiness. Help By Being Trained
If your friend is already addicted to some kind of extreme pleasure such as sex, drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, witchcraft, or accomplishments, you may think you need to get additional help from someone who is a minister. However, this is what Bible Life Counseling and Growing: Year Two are all about. Jesus is using Bible Life Counseling to minister to them; and, He is using Growing: Year Two to teach you how to minister to them. Bible Life Counseling will give them Jesus’ supernatural power to be set free. Jesus will use Growing: Year Two to give you hands-on training, so you will be able to minister to those who are addicted. The more you go through Growing: Year Two with more friends, Jesus will be increasing your ability to yield to Him and His power. Minister-Training From Jesus
Being a minister means you will be dealing with issues, in your friend, that you may have never had to deal with in your own life. Mentoring, in Beginning: Year One, only deals with breakthroughs you have had in your own life. However, in Growing: Year Two, Jesus will take into account the possibility that this is your first time to be a minister to a friend. And, even if you have been a minister for a long time, Jesus will be able to increase your training and skills through this time of study and prayer. Two Pages Taken From Bible Life Counseling
The Growing Pages Are Important
Just because your friend is going through the material, doesn’t mean they are understanding what they are being exposed to. Since you are farther along in your spiritual growth, you will see things in their studies that they will miss. Some things they miss won’t matter that much, because there will be repetition; but, some things will be vital to their current situation. Even though your pages and prayers are very similar to your friend’s, you will be getting special revelations from the Holy Spirit that will help you minister to them.
